Marketing Firm Targeted With Hate Mail Because of its Name

Herndon, VA marketing firm receives hate calls and emails for spam they didn't send.

Herndon, VA January 6, 2004 -- Entrepreneur, Adeel Sheikh, had no idea that his chosen company name, Meridian Promotions, will cause him much grief six months after opening shop. He has to screen his phone calls because people regularly call to threaten him and his hate mail is increasing daily.

The reason: SPAM! A spammer has recently spammed millions of people trying to market everything from ebay secrets to breast enhancement pills with Meridian Promotions in the from field of the email.

Recipients assume that the email is sent from meridianpromotions.com and they either call or email to get removed from the list or express their anger. This hurts our reputation and dealing with these angry people is a waste of valuable time, says Adeel.

Based on the information collected from the hate emails, Meridian Promotions IT consultant found that the IP address of the spamming server belongs to a Meridian Promotions of Haiku, Hawaii.

This shows how spam is a nuisance not only for the recipients but also innocent bystanders. Meridian Promotions is exploring its legal options and plans to take action against the real spammer.
